A follow-up to the Alexander’s family vacation. Well, most of the Alexanders. Zac decided he had important business to attend to in Fort Collins; seventeen years old don’t ‘cha know. Max, Jan Baby and I, Flash Buddy had a great adventure driving to Jackson Hole Wyoming. Cheap motel (49er Inn & Suites), fine dining, hiking, a cruise through Yosemite, rafting the Snake River and horseback riding; and have the pictures to prove it.

This is showing off the Awesome Flickr Gallery. Many website choose to use Flickr to manage their images This gives them the SEO advantage of having their images on a site that is extremely popular with Google (though not as popular as Picasa, ahem). Additionally, the bandwidth is handled by Flickr, instead of your own website. This keeps things humming along. Hey, isn’t this Cloud Computing?! Uh, apparently it isn’t anything new.

Jan Baby suggested a hike near Estes Park. After spending ten minutes Googling Rocky Mountain National Park hiking trails, arming ourselves with a camera and water bottle, off we went.
As luck would have it, Saturday, October first was opening day of the Estes Park Elk Festival. We ended up enduring long lines of traffic as we crawled our way towards Estes Park. Eventually we arrived onto Colorado Highway 7, escaped the hoards of tourists and found a parking spot near the Pikes Peak trail head. After reading the signs and taking a quick tour of the pit toilets, we were on our way up the trail to the Eugenia Mine; a scant two miles away.

Yea, I know, it needs some styling, which would be done by a css talented web guy such as myself, if I weren’t so lazy. I’m the plumber who won’t fix his own leaky toilet.

Thumbnail Gallery, created by Marius Donea, is one of the most configurable gallery plugins in existence. I purchased this plugin at Code Canyon and consider it money (a modest $15.00) well spent. Sure, I could have installed NextGen Gallery, added the thumb scroller plugin and had close to the same result. However, one must consider longevity. Paid for premium plugins stand a much better chance of being support/upgraded. Their authors are more likely to be available for counseling and advice and often, outright installation & configuration support.

While I’m on a “Madness” kick, why not Billboard Madness. Sliders are what this type of image/info display is commonly referred to. In the old days, seeing one image slide in from the left or right to replace another was too cool. Today, we have so many more options. This little gem can fit anywhere you choose to put it. Sidebars, content, templates, headers, footers…
This plugin is UDS Billboard. It cost $20.00. I’ll install and configure it for you for an additional $20.00. IMHO well worth it. Check it out at http://codecanyon.net

I recently embarked on a mission to find a way to mimic a image carousel (see below). It is a widget that advertises Amazon books. This all started when a client of mine
decided he needed some similar eye candy on his real estate website.
The problem with the Amazon wiget was clicking (more…)
